My dad phoned to tell me that he caught a guy trying to rob us... again. He got a good look at the guy and the guy didn't take off with anything... but our tv remote. They broke in through our basement window and had all our electronics in the hallway ready to go. Seriously, what the hell is wrong with humanity?

I am fully aware that I haven't updated in a very long time. So I guess I'll just do this on a subject by subject basis.
SCHOOL
I am midway through my last semester of coursework (I'll have until next August to have my major paper done). The courses are ok, I am loving my Recreation and Tourism Class and the copious amounts of field trips in my land use planning course. The highlight was a trip to Niagara County New York where we visited a mechanized apple farm, learned that they have the party system in local government (could you imagine voting for a mayor because they are a republican or a democrat) and I got to shop at Target (which was awesome). I also received a Dean's Scholarship of $1000.00 for my excellent grades last year - something I never saw during my four years at Queen's.
SOCIAL LIFE
I have been enjoying my socializing with my fellow RPDers here - the Ranch (for Sarah's bday) last weekend was a total blast, nothing beats line dancing and country music. I also saw Paschendaele (by myself) as a follow up to my weekend of fun - it was tasteful, patriotic, beautiful and horrible all at once - it was truly Canadian (and I mean that in the best possible sense of the word). I think I developed a crush on Paul Gross, something that I haven't felt for him since his days as a mountie in Due South. I am currently looking forward to November, and the excitement of seeing Twilight with Caitlin (truly the only one of my friends who has read the awesome series, will have an opinion on which Cullen man is the best, a side on the Team Edward - Team Jacob debate and will appreciate the film on the same level as me)... it makes me squee like a pre-teen girl who loves Hanna Montana and the Jonas Brothers (I must state that I DO NOT like the Jonas Brothers, but I have been known to see an episode or two of Hanna Montana).
CULTURAL EXPERIENCES
This coming Easter Break I will be heading over to jolly olde England to visit my dear friend and fellow Queen's alumn Allison (currently teaching in Dover). This will be my first experience of traveling solo, and my first trip to Europe. We will be hitting London, and parts of France (I hope for a trip to Juno Beach but we might be hitting Paris instead). Either way it will be awesome and a great reward for my hard work.
THE HOME FRONT
As a way to save money for my trip and to avoid unnecessary costs, I will be living at home after this semester is over (I will save like $2,500+ for housing and hopefully my housing deposit). My dad hopes to get a sheltie so I would be responsible for this new family member. On other news, my nana has had some health issues, culminating in a trip to the emerge and receiving at home health care. She has FINALLY agreed to go on a wait list for seniors apartments (which is an incredible relief to me and my mental health). Sometimes I swear she'll drive me to drink or self-medicate.
Well I think that sums up most of my life for the last couple of months!

I know I haven't updated in a while, so here it goes.
My family and I spent a week in Newfoundland. It was fun - we went sea kayaking, saw a puffin, iceberg, moose, etc. We even went to a community called Dildo (I got my photo taken with Captain Dildo). I did some shopping, went to Clarenville Days (it was the community we stayed in) and we visited the sites in St. Johns (Signal Hill, the GeoCentre etc). It was a fun trip.
I also have completed reading the Twilight series (just finishing the newest book Breaking Dawn yesterday - it came out this past Saturday). The books were definitely SQUEE worthy - I swoon for the love story of Bella and Edward! I am getting so excited since the first movie is coming out in December (it should be awesome)! I will say that as awesome as Edward was, I have developed a literary crush on Jasper!
This past weekend we had a family get together - for my Grandma's 80th and my aunt's 50th. It was fun, all the aunts, uncles and cousins were there. Amy, Katherine and I all went to see Hedley at Canal Days. The band was awesome, I swear the lead singer has ADHD or something, too much energy.
I also had a fun trip to the dentist - note the sarcasm. I now have an appointment for an oral surgeon this week to get a consultation on having my wisdom teeth removed. Oh what a way to end the summer.
Movies: I recently saw the Dark Knight (which was friggin awesome), Mamma Mia (which was catchy), Step-brothers (which was fairly raunchy, but funny). Can't wait for Pineapple Express and Hamlet 2.

Well, classes are technically over (i still have a presentation to do). Last night was Nancy's surprise baby shower. Most of us RPDers were in attendance - she got lots of cute gifts and we all had some great food and fun times. I really love all of them... we are a great group! Today I decided to veg (after a stressful week). So I watched the BBC version of Jane Eyre (it was fairly good, but Mr. Rochester was still too handsome). Then Ashley and I headed out to the movies and saw Leatherheads which George Clooney directed and stared in (along with Rene Zellweger and John Kransinski-aka Jim from the office). It was fabulously funny - great costumes and fun witty dialog. It was great and I recommend it to all.
So, I'm hanging at home - watching the snow fall. My birthday is tomorrow - the big 2-3. So I got money - with which i bought Interview With a Vampire and the first 3 seasons of Buffy (gosh - nostalgia, plus the yum factor of Angel and Spike...). I got a lovely card and cards (go sens) from Kat - thanks. Other than that, I've been hanging. Well back to Buffy.
So I am home this weekend - which is oh so exciting. Last night after a family dinner, we went to the movies. So I finally saw Juno. It was really good - but there was a group of teen girls there who kept yelling, switching seats, and being generally disruptive. It all came to a peak when one guy yelled "Grow up over there", another guy followed up with "Shut the fuck up" and another guy yelled "watch your language" - so eventually they got kicked out and the whole theatre applauded. It was wonderful. While at the mall, I also bought Little Giants (oh to be twelve again and still have an unnatural crush on Devon Sawa).

So, yesterday Ashley and I went to see Atonement! I had been waiting forever to see it - man was it worth the wait. The movie was absolutely stunning. The story was intricate, flowed well and was moving and sad. I cried. The sets and costumes were fabulously lush (the colouring was exquisite, Kiera Knightly's green dress was beautiful). And the ten minute long single shot beach scene in war-torn France was breathtaking. Overall, this movie deserved the Golden Globe for best drama - and it should win the Oscar as well. The movie was what movies should be - a complete package!
In other Jen related news - tonight me and the housemates are heading to Janice's for boardgames and pizza. Tomorrow night Ash, Arden, Sarah and I are going to see Across The Universe (on campus). I am jazzed - I've already seen it but it was that awesome that I wanted to see it again.

Well time has been motoring along. Christmas has been hectic - between holiday baking, visiting friends, out secret santa party and a trip to the All-Star. Today was ok. I got a bunch of movies from my dad - Superbad, Knocked Up, Pirates (3), O Brother Where Art Thou, CSI:NY Season 3 and Fraggle Rock Season one... plus a bunch of random goodies and money/gift certificates. Anyways, I am not in the mood to make a bigger update, so that is about it. Merry Christmas
So Thursday was the last day of classes this term - it feels great! After class I picked up another book for my theory paper, and headed back to the house. So far I have read 3/4 books for theory and am now partly through the 4th - excellent. Today I must do my social policy paper so I can hand it in tomorrow (no worries though).
Friday night was the RPD end of term party/ Cindy and David's bday party. It was very fun. Dancing, guys playing Neil Young on their guitars, Jenga, and a Disney Princess pinata (since my RPD Disney character is Snow White and her image graced the pinata, I got to hit it - yes).
Saturday night was Janice's housewarming and our secret santa gift exchange. Janice had me and I got (the rule dictated it was all dollar store stuff) - A wicker basket, a purple satchel, chocolate, cookies, a bag of marbles, some sparkley pens, metal frames, and decorated thumb tacks. It was a really fun idea - made $10 seem like a lot!
I am heading back to the hill on Tuesday - picking up my lil' bro and then doing my theory paper (figured i'd do it at home since it can only be emailed to the prof anyway). I better go get some lunch and get to work on my paper.

This weekend was fun and productive...
Friday I went to my PPC module (it was awesome). I headed back home and lounged a little bit, and made some brownies with my housemate Arden. I also talked to Justin on the phone - he is so helpful!
Saturday I finished my public administration essay and my module write-up. I then went with Arden, Ashley and Janice to see Enchanted. It was absolutely hilarious! I loved it! Then we headed to Walmart. I got a bunch of snacks and did some holiday shopping! Plus I got the People Sexiest Men issue! Yahoo!
Anyways, that is all. Tomorrow I must work on my social policy presentation/essay! Fun.

Today Arden and I headed out to the Bulk Barn (we bought a lot of food we shouldn't). We then headed to the mall to look for a camera battery for me (I didn't end up getting one). We wandered into a store that was selling everything for 50% off. I bought a blank tank style shirt and a grey/black bubble shirt. We then hit Music World's going out of business sale. I ended up getting Sorority Boys, Fear, Eurotrip and Men With Brooms. Not too shabby. We also hit Dollarama - where I got my secret santa (my housemate one) her gift! It was fairly awesome! Either way it was a fairly. Now I am sitting in the kitchen, getting ready to work on my powerpoint. My housemate's grandparents are down and they are treating us to a homemade dinner. Yum. Better go and get to work.

The last few weeks have been interesting. Last Thursday I went to the mall. I got my brother (Jason) his Christmas present... this year we are doing "secret santa" - except my dad blurted out who we all have... so Jason has me. So, anyways I bought Jason the movie Lolita (Stanley Kubrick version), a John Lennon action figure (New York John Lennon) and a deck of movie trivia cards. I figure its not a bad hall for the $50 limit. I bought myself the Across The Universe soundtrack (the 2 disc set). I seriously love that movie and the soundtrack is awesome. Overall it was a productive trip. The rest of last weekend was spent doing theory (I hate theory). Mainly I was reading up and making notes on Community Development theory and then I prepared my presentation (which happened on Tuesday). It apparently went very well because people were telling me that they enjoyed it and that I seem like a natural public speaker (oh man, it must be my drama training coming back - because I do get very awkward when I do presentations). I have basically vegged the last two days - except for doing some basic research for my public administration presentation/essay that I have coming up.
This weekend will be work heavy.
1) I have to do a 5 page write up on community development (basically a little more detail than in my presentation). It's due on Tuesday.
2) I have to prepare a presentation for my public administration class - no worries though, my topic is farmers markets. The presentation is on Wednesday.
3) Friday I have to attend another PPC module (which is a fun field trip to Oakville)- and I absolutely must write up my last 2 reports.
On the plus side - their is the November Fair in the UC and that means craft sales (I Heart Craft Sales). Plus I get to pick out my money from opting out of the dental plan. Either way, tomorrow will be a good one.
Well, I better get going to bed.... only theory tomorrow and then it is the weekend!

This weekend was a fun trip home. Friday I did a little work on my public administration project (on farmers markets). I also went with my brothers to the mall and bought an orange winter coat (it is double breasted and is really). Saturday I went out with my nana and got some cookies and english toffee. That night I went and saw Across the Universe with Em and Justin. The movie was really good. The music was great - all the actors were amazing. It was also visually stunning... wow. Sunday I went and visited Judith and saw her pictures from her trip to England/Scotland/Ireland/Wales. All in all it was pretty good.
Yesterday I went to see "Dan In Real Life" with my housemate Ashley. The movie was really good. Steve Carrel was lovable and funny. The whole cast was actually really good. I seriously recommend it - in fact I'll probably buy it when it comes out... FYI: It is sort of like the movie "The Family Stone" so if you really hated that setup then you probably wont like this... oh and Dane Cook was actually fairly cool in this (he redeems himself as an actor).
Today I was surprised with some mail. I got some candy, a little lantern and a growing pumpkin from Kat and Emily. It really made my day!

The trip to Goderich last weekend was fun. Bunk beds, playing cards with Wayne (the prof) and eating tons of food - plus watching an educational movie featuring John Clease (oh the Pythons). It was a lot better than I expected - although I was lacking in the sleep department and was glad to get back to my own comfy bed!
Tonight I went to the Stampede Ranch for Sarah's birthday party (Sarah went to Queens - studied Geography - had common friends with me - and yet we didn't meet until we got to Guelph... oh the irony). The Ranch was awesome - country music (most of which I knew), crazy-assed line dancing (I attempted it - nobody can call Jen a party pooper) - and hot men in droves (and cowboy hats). I honestly think there might have been more men there then women. It was a great atmosphere and with a cover of only $2.75, you honestly can't beat it. I have already informed my housemates that we are going there for a girls night out and that we will indeed be taking a taxi - being a DD when going to a cowboy bar is not that fun.
Tomorrow Allison is coming down for part of the weekend. We plan on getting dinner and watching Elizabeth The Golden Age (I have waited 7 long years for it...). Before she arrives I have to work on my Social Policy Essay - seeing as it is due on Wednesday. I do have all the rough notes on it and am set to go (it wont be too bad 10-15 pages is nothing). Well I better be getting to bed.

I completely forgot to update about my Turkey Day....
Friday I drove home (picking up Kyle on the way). He bought me an ice cap - I essentially forced him as a trade off for me having to stay in Guelph an extra day. Anyways, we essentially did nothing on Friday - other than stopping by to see the Nana and Bobbie.
Saturday I got stuck taking nana to the mall so she could buy this ugly fake flower thingy for my mom's gravestone... it is seriously ugly and I know my mom would have hated it... I mean it was so bad that Jason and I actually said that she is prolly up there rolling her eyes at us. I got some lovely bulk food candy and not much else (although I considered getting some Smallville seasons... which is a fair enough option for Christmas and such). Later that day me and the bros watched Jesus Camp (it is frightening, wonderfully done, and gives great insight into the evangelical movement that is currently changing the face of the United States - recommend it to all). Emily came over that night and we watch Premonition. It wasn't too bad but the ending made little to no sense. Bumber.
Sunday I watched Superman Returns (I wanted to see if it was as bad as what everyone says). It really isn't too bad. Yes, the plot is a little confusing to those who aren't familiar with the mythology. The main issue was Brandon Routh... he was absolutely horrible. To me he simply wasn't Superman or Clark Kent. Maybe I am so incredibly used to Tom Welling as Kent and Christopher Reeve... but frankly Routh didn't look convincing - he just didn't seem manly enough. Either way Kevin Spacey was great as Lex Luther and I loved Parky Posey as Kitty Kowalski. Kate Bosworth wasn't particularly good or bad. I loved the way Jimmy Olsen was portrayed... him and his bowtie and his childish tendencies. It was too funny for words. Sunday night we watched 2 new episodes of the Trailer Park Boys... man is that show funny.
Monday we went to my uncle and aunt's for dinner. I have to admit that it felt weird not having Thanksgiving at home. I guess that is simply phase one of 'holidays without mom.' It is sort of the first official one. I mean she wasn't around for Easter but she was still alive. I have this bad feeling that Christmas is going to be hard, very hard. I already intend to decorate the house (my dad said he wasn't going to bother but he said I could if I wanted to). I also plan on making a lot of the cookies and squares she made and host my usual Holiday Secret Santa Party.
On a much lighter and less depressing note - Kat has put out the feelers for a Reading Week trip to NYC. My dad already gave the go ahead for it and said he'll look into the whole renewal of my passport. Nothing is set in stone of course but I am already pondering which Broadway Show I want to see (oh Kat - check out Spring Awakening - I have seen some cast performances and it looks amazing!).
Anyways, I better get lunch and packing - my friend Sarah arrives here at 3:30 to pick me up for our fun filled field trip to Goderich (Thurs-Sat).
